Mr Desmond Teo

Mr Desmond Teo is a data analyst at the Health Sciences Authority of Singapore (HSA). He develops tools and algorithms to monitor the safety and quality of drugs and vaccines in the market. As a pharmacist by training, Mr Teo has a keen interest in studying adverse reactions from drugs and vaccines, and he works with clinicians and data scientists to test and implement strategies to identify these reactions.

Some of his projects include the use of machine learning and natural language processing to detect adverse drug reactions from hospital discharge summaries, as well as to classify and prioritise critical health product quality issues from case reports, to inform prompt and adequate regulatory action.

Mr Teo is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Biomedical Informatics at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and holds a Bachelor of Science (Pharmacy) (Hons) from the same university.
