“I am Groot” – How to be a “Guardian” of the Pharmacy Eduverse (Vol 4)

COVID-19 has accelerated the need for adaptability and innovation in healthcare education. As pharmacy educators, the education team at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) has embraced this challenge, drawing inspiration from Groot, the beloved sentient tree-like creature in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In this presentation, we showcase our journey of embracing innovation, adaptability and interconnectedness to shape our hospital’s pharmacy training landscape. Like Groot’s ability to adapt and take on different forms, our education initiatives embrace flexibility to cater to diverse learning styles of trainees, creating immersive environments for active problem-solving. In the spirit of Groot’s limited-yet-iconic phrase, “I am Groot,” we believe that effective communication goes beyond words. Thus, we have explored digital platforms and virtual tools to enhance collaboration and communication skills among our learners. Just as Groot’s unique abilities make him integral to the Guardians of the Galaxy team, we combine the elements of our multifaceted educational journey to create a holistic and interconnected learning experience for pharmacy trainees. By fostering a culture of innovation through immersive technologies such as virtual reality, serious games and the metaverse, we shall share our adventure of transforming education into engaging and transformative experiences. Discover how our collective efforts as “Guardians” can empower learners to thrive, adapt and succeed in the evolving landscape of pharmacy education. Let Groot’s qualities of adaptability, interconnectedness and effective communication guide us in creating a vibrant and impactful learning environment.
